The Confederation of African Football (Caf) is organising a poll to nominate the best African player of the last 50 years. Followers of African football will be able to vote through Caf’s website ahead of the confederation’s fiftieth anniversary next year. On the list of players are are Menguistu WORKU and Luciano VASSALO legendary Ethiopian football players and winners of the 3rd Caf (wearing number nine is Yidnekachew). ----------------------------------
Troops loyal to Somalia's interim government accompanied by Ethiopian military personnel returned to Baidoa Monday after briefly taking control of Buurhakaba town.
Col. Said "Dhere" Mohamed Hersi, a government military commander, told local media in Baidoa that they went to Buurhakaba for a brief visit and not for war. "I saw more than 70 armed trucks and infantry troops pass in front of my house," Hussein Mursal, a local elder in Baidoa, told Garowe Online.
After Somali and allied Ethiopian troops pulled out of Buurhakaba, local militias and allied Islamic Courts militiamen took control of the town that links Baidoa to Mogadishu, Somalia's traditional capital. Meanwhile in Mogadishu, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the Islamists' chief executive, held a press conference and encouraged supporters to wage "jihad" against the invading Ethiopian army.
Stop forced returns to Ethiopia, UN urges Somalia
GENEVA, Oct 10 (Reuters) - The United Nations refugee agency urged Somali authorities on Tuesday to stop forced returns of migrants to Ethiopia until it could set up screening to determine whether asylum-seekers were amongst them.
It said it had reports 1,300 Ethiopian migrants were handed over on Sunday to Ethiopian authorities at a border town, while another 500 migrants were being held at a mosque in the northeastern Somali port city of Bosaso prior to deportation.
"We have asked the authorities to temporarily suspend forced returns until we have had a chance to check that there are no asylum-seekers amongst those being deported, mainly back to Ethiopia," UNHCR spokeswoman Jennifer Pagonis told a briefing.(More...)

Caf has picked 200 players who have made an impact on the continent since its founding in 1957, with the selection based on performances at national and international level.
